Position Summary:
Summary

Manages the maintenance and repair of facilities, equipment and machinery; assists in the planning of Cobalt and/or EtO requirements in the most economical manner conducive to operational goals. Maintains a preventative maintenance program and a spare parts inventory sufficient to maintain operations in an efficient and productive manner.

Essential Job Functions

1. Identifies current and future maintenance requirements by establishing rapport with management, engineering, technicians, operators and other persons to understand maintenance requirements; recommends and participates in capital improvement projects.

2. Achieves financial objectives by preparing an annual maintenance budget; schedules expenditures; analyzes variances and initiates corrective actions; obtains required parts and services by negotiating for the best terms with suppliers.

3. Ensures production operations by determining work priorities and scheduling repair, maintenance and installation of machines, tools and equipment.

4. Supports process equipment development and improvement by reviewing new processing plans; discusses equipment needs and modifications with internal and external engineering personnel; coordinates activities of direct reports.

5. Provides for facility utilities by directing the installation, modification and maintenance of utility system activities.

6. Designs, implements and modifies preventative maintenance programs by reviewing production, quality control and maintenance reports and statistics; inspects operating machines, equipment, and systems for conformance with operational and or regulatory standards.

7. Directs maintenance operations by initiating, coordinating and enforcing programs, operational, and employee relations policies and procedures; on-call at all times to minimize downtime.

8. Resolves maintenance problems by conferring with management, engineering and quality personnel.

9. Protects employees and visitors by maintaining a safe and clean working environment; reviews organization safety/maintenance checks and program results; directs custodial and facility work functions, including pest control, to maintain a professional working environment consistent with company GMP as well as external regulatory requirements.

10. Ensures a safe working environment as safety coordinator by training employees to maintain a high level of safety awareness in the performance of their duties in such a manner that meets or exceeds pertinent regulatory agencies; directs and maintains the facility calibration program within established guidelines.

11. Completes departmental requirements by scheduling, assigning, and following through with employees.

12. Maintains maintenance staff by selecting, orientating, training, and evaluating employees.

13. Maintains maintenance staff job results by coaching, counseling and disciplining employees; plans, monitors and appraises job results in a manner that induces high morale and reduces employee complaints.

14. Ensures that all federal, state and local regulations pertaining to, but not limited to, radioactive materials, licensing compliance, safety, EPA, OSHA, FDA rules and regulations are adhered to. Must maintain a working knowledge of regulations and establish a monitoring program that responds to audit activity in a constructive manner.

15. Maintains professional skills, knowledge and abilities by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications and participating in professional societies.

16. Contributes in a team effort by performing according to the guidelines outlined in the STERIS Code of Business Conduct, the GMP and other directives; supporting the directives and decisions of higher level management and accomplishing other duties as assigned.

17. Communicates in an effective manner by utilizing accepted business practices in a courteous and professional manner providing timely and accurate responses and service oriented offers of assistance.

18. Protects company confidential information by properly storing, retrieving and disseminating such information only to those authorized.

19. Working Conditions

Position primarily requires sitting, standing and walking in an office environment and stooping climbing standing, walking and talking in a processing environment. Nature of work requires depth perception, near- and far-sighted vision, normal color distinction and normal finger dexterity. Environment includes working in close proximity to contained controlled ionizing radiation and/or controlled and contained toxic flammable gas (ethylene oxide) and other treatment/process chemicals of which further information is available through the facility’s Hazardous Communication Standard (Right to Know). May require entering an enclosed vault or vessel. Work environment has potential for exposure to limited electrical current/voltage. May require entering an enclosed vault or vessel. Environment has potential exposure to sub-protection levels of noise, heat and humidity. Requires working near moving parts, machinery and gears. Hours of work exceed normal business hours, is available on a 7/24 basis for emergency response. Will require use of personal protection items as needed. Will require occasional day and overnight trips and infrequent extended overnight trips.


Requirements
Education/License Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
Certified fork lift operator.

Experience Requirements (Skills, Knowledge and Abilities)

Requires:

1. A minimum of five (5) years experience in an industrial maintenance environment including a working knowledge of pneumatics, welding, mechanics, hydraulics, electrical, PLCs and electronic applications.
2. A minimum of two (2) years of supervisory or management experience.
3. Ability to effectively read, write and verbally communicate in English.
4. Ability to work independently under general guidelines and supervision.
5. Requires computer literacy to include word processing, spreadsheet and software capabilities.
6. Effective interpersonal skills as demonstrated through prior management experience.
7. Above average organizing and analyzing skills and Level 2 math skills (four basic arithmetic functions in all units of measurement, decimals ratios, rates, percentages) to determine organizational, Customer and regulatory problems and formulate corrective action plans; attention to detail.
7. Able to adapt to changing duties and responsibilities.
8. Able to influence people in opinions, attitude or judgments; to generalize, evaluate and make decisions in stressful situations.
9. Ability to read blueprints and schematics.
10. Ability to supervise outside contractors.
11. Normal hearing range sufficient to hear alarms, bells, horns, etc.
