Under close supervision, assists in the development of plans for utilization of land and physical facilities of cities, counties, and metropolitan areas, conducting work that has clear and specific objectives and requires investigation of a limited number of factors. Receives instructions on specific assignments from senior planning personnel. Some assignments involve the use of computer software applications.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES :
Performs various field and office tasks requiring the application of basic urban/environmental planning principles and fundamental theories. Gathers, compiles, and analyzes data on economic, social, and physical factors affecting land use.
Confers with local authorities, civic leaders, social scientists, and land planning and development specialists to devise and recommend arrangements of land and physical facilities for residential, commercial, transportation, industrial, and community uses.
Researches governmental measures affecting land use, public utilities, community facilities, housing, and transportation to control and guide community development and renewal.
Assists in preparing, coordinating, and facilitating public involvement meetings and consensus-building workshops.
Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
Qualifications: • 4-year degree in Urban/Environmental Planning or related field and 5-10 years of related work experience. The candidate must have local Inland Empire experience that is located within the Inland Empire.
• Has working knowledge of GIS.
• Experience delivering environmental compliance documents for transportation projects.
• Experience writing technical documents and giving oral presentations.
SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:
Basic knowledge of urban/environmental planning practices and procedures. Computer literacy in the software packages typically used in urban/environmental planning assignments is required.
